Easily recognisable thanks to its black-and-white colour and the size of its dorsal fin, which can measure up to 2 m, the killer whale is a beautiful sea mammal. Also known as the orca, this formidable predator is found in almost all of the worlds oceans, mainly in cold water where it hunts for fish but also marine mammals (seals, sea lions, dolphins and other whales, etc.). These huge creatures can measure up to 9 m for the males and weigh more than 9 tonnes. Killer whales live in small groups of between 5 and 10 individuals, which form a genuine family unit. They are very sociable and possess an incredible capacity for being trained. Like its cousin the dolphin, the killer whale is one of the worlds most intelligent animals.
